Time is drawing near
for the Alamo Rails 2010 LSR Convention! Just what does that mean?
It
means it's time to send in your registration for THE BIG event of
the year. The Alamo Rails is a convention for all LSR members and
friends where they can come and make new friends, see old ones, go
to clinics, auctions, and tours and have great food and a wonderful
time. It is in a location that begs to bring your spouse and the
family, San Antonio. It is a great place for a convention. The
Alamo Rails members here in the San Antonio and surrounding area are
making sure that you, the convention attendee, have a great time.
Not a NMRA member? Join now! Get a six month Rail Pass for ONLY
$9.95.
We all know that San
Antonio is a great tourist town, with the River Walk, the Missions,
the Alamo and great Tex-Mex food. It is also home to a bunch of
great model railroad clubs, individual home layouts and a very
vibrant rail network. We have a great speaker for the Saturday
banquet, Mr. Stephen Priest whom all of you know from Scale Rails
magazine. We have some fantastic clinics available; a complete list
is on our web site, alamorails.org. There are a number of tours
available. Steam fans, a ride on the Wimberly Blanco and Southern
is one that you do not want to miss. You need to sign up ASAP.
Also, the Union Pacific Yard tours are already getting to
capacity. And the industrial Hanson quarry tours are just as
popular and filling up fast. Again, sign up now and if you are not
a NMRA member, there is a Rail Pass (6 month membership) available
for only $9.95.
With time passing
faster than we wish, it almost seems that conventions are the only
time we get to set aside time to be with old friends and meet new
ones. Friendship is one aspect of the hobby that knows no scale,
age, prototype, location or skill. Friendship is when you sit and
share a cup of coffee, a lunch, enjoy a clinic or discuss the latest
in the clinic you just saw. The socializing is something that we
all share as a community of modelers. And that is how new friends
are made and how old ones are strengthened. If you are wondering
what draws us to these conventions, you will quickly see that it is
the interaction and learning with others that is the real
attraction.
So, continuing with
that theme, let’s talk about layouts. How many times have you gone
to a layout and thought that oh well, another attempt at scenery or
operations or whatever and walked in and said WOW. We have layouts
that will do that for you. So you know what happens. You end up
not only talking for a lot longer than you anticipated but can’t
wait to come back. Or you have gone to the contest room and just
starred for a long time looking over a model. Then talking to the
individual and picking up tips for your next great creation. Again,
that is what conventions are about.
I can go on and on.
Let’s just say that the Alamo Rails team is making sure that you
will have a great and memorable visit to San Antonio and the LSR
2010 convention. Please go to the web site Alamorails.org to
register for the convention. And do not forget to apply for your
Rail Pass for only $9.95.
Looking forward to
your visit.
